TRAILHEAD TO CAMP | NORTH PALISADE | STARLIGHT | THUNDERBOLT | CAMP TO TRAILHEAD

After hanging out on top of North Palisade long enough to take some pictures and eat something, we started the traverse to Starlight. This starts with a 100 ft rappel. Here is Mike on his way down.

While waiting my turn to rappel down, I had a great view of Starlight Peak. Its kind of hard to see, but its that pointy pinnacle in the upper center of the picture.

There goes Brooke...

After the first rappel, we had a nice sloping slab to traverse, then another short rappel down and across a gap to get to this spot where we could start making our way up Starlight.
Mike is up at the top of this pitch belaying Brooke up while I wait my turn and enjoy the view.

Then some more 3rd class scrambling...

And a view back at North Palisade, and the way we just came.

And some more scrambling...

And then we reached the top. Well, ok. We're not quite there yet. We still need to get to the top of the pinnacle.

So, after some fancy rope work, we managed to get our rope wrapped around the top so Mike could make his way up.

After getting to the top, he used some slings to set a top rope and rappelled down.

It was Brooke's turn to go next. Mike belayed her up while I played photographer.

Lets see a nice mantle there Brooke...

Almost there. Don't look down now... Its a little different climbing in hiking boots at 14,000 ft!

Yay! She made it! We couldn't talk her in to standing up on top though...

My turn.

Almost there...

They couldn't talk me into standing up either...

After enjoying the climb and the views, we had to retrace our route back over North Palisade and down. Here's a shot of where we just came from before we climbed back up North Palisade.

Another shot of the amazing view from the Palisades. This is looking South-West as we climbed back up North Palisade.
